JK Rowling: New Interview!
by Stacey.
Caution: this interview may contain mild adult language.
Enjoy!

“To be invisible… that would be the best…”

J. K. Rowling (Bristol, England, 1965) or “Jo” to her friends, has the same look: frightened and happy, as Harry Potter, her fictional character. She wrote the first book because she needed it, and she continued writing until the seventh which is now released (on the 21st of February in Spain; as everywhere, in Salamandra), without looking the other way, without realizing the gigantic number of, children, youths, adults, who have become addicts from this enormous book of magic and reality which is perhaps the biggest seller in history.

Harry Potter is her hero: he saved her and as a consequence has left her emotional: she has abandoned him but cannot live without him. She told us this last Tuesday morning in Edinburgh, where she has lived for years, in the only interview she has given to Spanish media.

We brought her cheese from Asturias, to remind her of her prize from the “Príncipe de Asturias de la Concordia” and greetings from the foundation that decides those awards.

Occasionally she has spoken, in her interviews, of another great solitary person like herself, of Francis Scott Fitzgerald. It stroke us as an opportunity to start to talk to her in the same vein, of solitude and death, and of melancholy, which are the themes which dominate the last part of Harry Potter, perhaps her alter ego.

Q: You usually talk of Scott Fitzgerald, a melancholy man.

A: Yes, I have spoken of him to make a distinction between a writer that due to nature and talent had the impulse to write and could not share this need to write with his social life. I mentioned him because these days with so much emphasis on the media, it seems as though there is some sort of obligation, which says that a writer must be a public person. In my case, people think that because I am a well-known author, I should be good giving interviews and appearing in photographs. People expect to see you enjoying yourself on television programmes and expect that you like to be a public person, a performer. But I’m not. I like the life of the writer. I enjoy the solitude.

Q: It’s interesting, sometimes in Harry Potter, above all the most recent installments, there has been a certain amount of sadness and solitude, which is reminiscent of Fitzgerald.

A: Undoubtedly. It’s sadness, which is born from grief. And Scott Fitzgerald had two afflictions: that of his talent and his need to create and the affliction of his private life, which was catastrophic. Those two afflictions are enough to lead anyone to alcoholism.

Q: Those afflictions can come in that time between childhood and adolescence, when the phantoms arrive and they stay with you forever.

A: Yes, I think adolescents are very aware of death. They feel as though they are so pressured that, for them, death is only a step away. They are very fragile people. In Great Britain there is a culture of fear towards teenagers, towards young people in general. And it shouldn’t be that way. We need to be protecting them instead of protecting ourselves from them.

Q: Talk a bit about death. In the sixth and seventh Harry Potter books, death appears no just as a word or thought but as a possibility, something obvious and a reality.

A: That was always the plan, that death should appear in that way. Since he was young until Chapter 34 of the seventh book, Harry is required to be a better man in that he is obligated to accept the inevitability of his own death. The plan of the books was that he should have contact with death and with the experience of death. And it was always Harry alone who had to have that experience. It all came down to conscience, because the hero had to live these things, do things, see things on his count. It’s part of that isolation and sadness that comes with being a hero.

Q: That 34th chapter [quotation – re: Harry realizing h

JK Rowlings answers at Carnegie Hall
by Ameer
Here are some of the questions asked by fans and JK Rowlings answers to them incase u havent seen this already. Read on and leave comments on what u think.

Q: Did Neville ever find love?

Of course. ... To make him extra cool he marries the woman who becomes, eventually, the new landlady at The Leaky Cauldron, which I think would make him very cool among the students, that he lives above the pub. He marries Hannah Abbott.

How did you decide that Molly Weasley would be the one to finish off Bellatrix?

I always knew Molly was going to finish her off. I think there was some speculation that Neville would do it, because Neville obviously has a particular reason to hate Bellatrix. ..So there were lots of optios for Blelatrix, but I never deviated. I wanted it to be Molly, and I wanted it to be Molly for two reasons.

The first reason was I always saw Molly as a very good witch but someone whose light is necessarily hidden under a bushel, because she isn't in the kitchen a lot and she has had to raise, among others, and george which is like, enough... I wanted Molly to have her moment and to show that because a woman had dedicated herself to her family does not mean that she doesn't have a lot of other talents.

Second reason: It was the meeting of two kinds of - if you call what Bellatrix feels for Voldemort love, I guess we'll call it love, she has a kind of obsession with him, it's a very sick obsession ... and I wanted to match that kind of obsession with maternal love... the power that you give someone by loving them. So Molly was really an amazing exemplar of maternal love. ... There was something very satisfying about putting those two women together.

How different would the last two books be if Arthur had been killed in the middle of book five?

I think they would have been very different and it's part of the reason why I chose my mind. ... By turning Ron into half of Harry, in other words by turning Ron into someone who had suffered the loss of a parent, I was going to remove the Weasleys as a refuge for Harry and I was going to necessarily remove a lot of Ron's humor. That's part of the reason why I didn't kill Arthru. I wanted to keep Ron in tact ... a lot of Ron's humor comes from his insensitivity and his immaturity, to be honest about Ron. And Ron finally, I think, you see, grows up in this book. He's the last of the three to reach what I consider adulthood, and he does it then [ when he destroys the horcrux] and faces those things. So that's part of the reason. The only other reason I didn't kill Arthur was that I wanted to come full circle. We started with an orphan, someone who lost their parents because of the war. ANd so I wanted to show it again. ... Even though you don't see Teddy, I wanted to express in the epilogue, that he gets an even better godfather than Harry had, because Sirius had ihs faults, I think we must admit. He was a risky guy to have a s a godfather. Because Teddy gets someone who really has been there, and Harry becomes a really great father figure for Teddy as well as his own children. I hasten to add that I didn't kill Lupin or Tonks lightly. I loved them as characters...so that hurt, killing them.

Q: In the Goblet of Fire Dumbledore said his brother was prosecuted for practicing inappropriate charms [JKR buries her head, to laughter] on a goat; what were the inappropriate charms he was practicing on that goat?

JKR: How old are you?

Eight.

JKR: I think that he was trying to make a goat that was easy to keep clean [laughter], curly horns. That's a joke that works on a couple of levels. I really like Aberforth and his goats. But you know Aberforth having this strange fondness for goats if you've read book seven, came in really useful to Harry, later on, because a goat, a stag, you know. If you're a stupid Death Eater, what's the difference. So, that is my answer to YOU.

[loud applause]

Q: Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of

Emma Watson talks Harry Potter & Ballet Shoes in new interview
In a new interview with Alloy.com, Emma Watson spoke about her film Ballet Shoes (which has been released this week for limited engagements in American theatres), and how it compared to the Harry Potter series. Emma also goes into detail about how different her on-screen characters Pauline and Hermione are.

Quote:
So what was it like doing something other than a Harry Potter movie?
It was wonderful. It was really nice to do something completely different. Obviously, we did it for the BBC, which is a British television channel. It was done in a TV format, so it was completely different to being on a massive big Hollywood blockbuster. We shot four scenes in one day and we were working six-day weeks. It was much more the crew and it was very different but I absolutely loved it. It was different.

What was it like working without Rupert and Daniel?
It was nice to be with lots of girls. It was a really nice change because usually on Potter I’m with guys all the time and I was with Lucy [Boynton] and Yasmin [Paige] and Emilia [Fox] and Victoria [Wood] everyday. That was really nice. It was lovely.

How did it feel doing a more straightforward film with no special effects?
Yeah, that was actually lovely. That was really nice not to having to worry so much about the technical aspect of it, just focus on the acting.

What was it like playing Pauline as opposed to Hermione?
One of the great things is that in playing Pauline, I got to dress up and be much more girly. She’s an actress, I got to dress up as Alice in Wonderland and there’s a part in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Then she’s in this film that’s a period piece, so I got to wear a corset and an old dress and a wig. I got to have so much fun with all the ’30s make-up. It was really good fun to do something that was out of school uniform and out of jeans and a t-shirt and something completely different. It was lovely.

Who do you relate to more: Pauline or Hermione?
It’s such a hard question because I relate to both of the characters so much. I relate to Pauline in terms [of] her experience, this overnight fame that she experiences is very similar to what I went through when I was younger; her insecurities and how to try to be an actress and worrying what people will think, or if she’s any good. I don’t know. I can really relate to all of that side of her, but then also with Hermione, I relate to wanting to escape and books and school work. I’m also quite a tomboy, so I relate to that. She’s very determined and loyal. I really relate to both of the characters

On her decision to take the role in Ballet Shoes, and possible future roles she would be interested in playing, Emma had this to say:

What made you wait until recently to take on another role?
I had other parts that came up, but I just didn’t want to do anything for the sake of it. It’s important that I take on other roles, just generally, because otherwise people will just think of me as Hermione for the rest of my life. But I just wanted to wait for the right thing and something that I really wanted to do. I work so hard, and I’m in school, and I’m doing publicity. I’m keeping myself so busy as it is. It had to be something that I really wanted to do. Luckily, Ballet Shoes was short enough that I could fit it in between publicity for Harry Potter, school work, and obviously filming. I was just lucky that it worked out like that.

What kind of parts would you like to play in the future?
There’s nothing in particular that I’m looking for. But Pauline, in order to audition, she does some Shakespeare and she’s in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. For that, I got to read Puck’s speech from a A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I [would] actually really love to do some Shakespeare. I’d love to do some stage work. I’d love to try that. I actually sing as well, so I

New Rupert Grint fan photos from CherryBomb set
Two new photos of Rupert Grint from the Cherry Bomb set have been revealed, showing him posing with one of the film's extras, Laura (who worked on the movie for two days); she stated that Rupert was a "lovely guy, so down-to-earth and nice." She also noted that the scene in which Rupert's character Malachy appeared bloodied-up and bruised was part of the climactic final sequence.

The photos can be seen at the following links.

I just want to ask this one thing. It is rumored that in the HBP movie Ginny and Harry don't actually kiss, they are about to but the Death Eaters come. Is that true?
